Marc Márquez may have been the fastest in the first practice day of 2015, but hopes are high in the Yamaha camp. Both Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo have finished the test with better feelings than a year ago: the Yamaha M1 is much closer to Honda than it was in 2014.
“Today has been a really good day because I have been consistently fast both morning and afternoon. We have worked hard on improving my pace on used tires, but it is already quite good. The bike is good and the new tires have achieved good times” explained Rossi.
The Italian finished second but only 166 thousandths off Marquez. “In the end, I’m second behind Márquez, but not by much. It seems that the bike has improved in different areas. We still have work to do but being the first day, it was good” he adds.
His teammate Jorge Lorenzo sums it up clearly: “Sepang is not our best circuit but having two Yamahas in the top 3 is a good sign.” For the Spanish, this year is “a totally different story than last year when we had many problems. This year we have been ahead from the start, in the first three positions, and that means that the bike is working.”
Lorenzo: “My physical condition is very good”
One of Lorenzo’s main problems at the start of last season was weight, which dogged him during the first half of the year. This year has remedied those problems from the start.
“My physical condition is very good: I feel strong but the first day is always complicated. You have to use muscles you do not normally use in the gym or in the preparation, so you just always tired. However, compared with a normal preseason, I feel good, “said Lorenzo.
